An organisation built around the interconnected needs of rural communities Born for Rural Development (BRD) was established on 17 April 2021 and is headquartered in Kurua,
Darrang, Assam. The organisation works primarily across Assam, with scope to extend its programmes to pan-India projects as opportunities and partnerships allow.
Community Participation + Capacity Building + Partnerships + Local Action = Sustained, Community-Owned Impact BRD approaches rural development not as a set of isolated charitable acts, but as a connected effort where a child’s right to education, a family’s access to healthcare and legal protection, a woman’s or youth’s path to livelihood, and a community’s resilience and cultural identity all depend on one another. This is why BRD’s work spans child rights and education, legal awareness and access to justice, healthcare and HIV/AIDS prevention, women’s and youth empowerment, livelihoods and rural development, senior citizen welfare, community awareness, and the preservation of Assam’s cultural heritage.
The organisation’s development philosophy centres on community participation, capacity building and partnership. BRD works directly with communities, schools, District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA), the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR), the Assam State AIDS Control Society (ASACS/NACO) and local stakeholders, using the ground-level trust it builds to bring government entitlements, legal protections and health services closer to the people who need them.
